Introduction to Forensic Accounting

This unique course focuses on the financial interview process and how to locate an illicit money flow.  You will spend a great deal of class time completing exercises based on actual money laundering cases designed to provide you with the skills necessary to discern pertinent data and conduct financial investigations.
You will learn how terrorists and organized crime groups raise funds in Western Europe and the United States via charities and illegal activities.  Money laundering and various investment instruments used by these criminals will be presented as we teach you forensic accounting techniques to locate the off-shore banking institutions and financial vehicles being used to transport illegal monies.  We will show you how to obtain banking and business records and provide you with a myriad of financial databases to use.  We will also discuss R.I.C.O. and asset forfeiture techniques.
You will spend at least twelve hours of class time completing four “hands-on” exercises.  These projects will progress in difficulty during the week and will require you to use receipts, ledgers, bank statements and other documents to prepare your cases.
